Montenegro at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona

The Montenegrin delegation will consist of eight athletes at the 18th Mediterranean Games in Spain's Tarragona from June 22nd to July 1st, 2018.

"Although the term of the XVIII Mediterranean Games coincides with the World Cup in football, we expect the competition to be extremely high-quality and media-driven. At the Mediterranean Games, 26 countries will participate with about 4,000 athletes. In addition to men's and women's handball, our water polo selection will take part; while in individual sports we will have competitors in athletics, karate, judo, sailing, swimming and sailing. The opening of the Games is scheduled for June 22nd. Our female handball team, swimmer Ilija Tadić and karatekas will all be present at the ceremony. The Montenegrin flag will be carried by karateka Marina Rakovic, our top athlete", said Igor Vusurovic.

Montenegrin karate has two scholarships for Tokyo, but Mario Hodzic has failed to come due to injury. Rakovic earned the second scholarship for medals from all the biggest competitions.

"I am honored and pleased to carry the Montenegrin flag in Tarragona. I expect fierce competition, but I'm in great shape. I hope for a good draw and I will give it all to bring a medal to my country", Rakovic promised.

At the Mediterranean Games, there will be a number of world powers in sport, such as France, Italy, Spain, Turkey …

"In Tarragona there are countries of the region that cover over 500 million inhabitants. The competition will be fierce, and the contest itself is shifted for this year, because of the organizational problems. This is one of the most important competitions for our athletes, and we have expectations that our athletes will confirm their quality. We also believe that it will serve as a good check and experience for reaching the Olympic norms for Tokyo 2020", said Marsenic.
