"Montenegrin athletes and Montenegrin Olympic Committee have justified the expectations and trust from the European Olympic Committee with their work, as well as the results they have achieved", said Patrick Hickey during his meeting with MOC's Executive Board.
Hickey is the head of EOC's delegation, which is on a two day visit to the Montenegrin Olympic Committee. The delegation also includes the Vice President Janez Kocijancic and Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi. Hickey expressed his gratitude for the hospitality, stating that he was very pleased that he had the opportunity to visit Montenegro.
"I know the achievements of Montenegrin athletes. I was thrilled by your handball players winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games in London, and I am especially glad to see Bojana Popovic, the famous handball player, in your Executive Board. I am also aware of your successes at the Games of the Small States of Europe, European Games and the Festival. Montenegrin athletes and Montenegrin Olympic Committee have fully justified our expectations, said Hickey. MOC's President Dusan Simonovic thanked the EOC's leaders for all they have done for Montenegro so far, also stating that the athletes achievements justified those actions. "I hope that EOC's support will continue in the coming period. We are a young Olympic Committee and all kinds of help are very welcome. We talked about the financial assistance, young talents, help to our administration, to coaches and professional workers in national teams. We talked about the assistance to MOC who is a little, but not too much, strapped with finances", said Simonovic.
Kocijancic said that he liked to recall the beginnings of Montenegrin sport, stating that since then, huge steps have been made. "I gladly remember the first steps of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, cooperation with Dusko and the very first conversation we had. In life, the man always hopes that the trust he gives comes true, and my confidence in Montenegrin sport not only came true, but was realised in a phenomenal way. Montenegro has achieved greater visibility in the global, international relations on the sports field, than it has done on any other level. For this I give my sincere congratulations", said Kocijancic.
Secretary General Pagnozzi said that he knows that many Italian athletes look up to Montenegrin, naming the water polo players as an example. "It is not the first time I'm in Montenegro. Italy and Montenegro are close, and the sport has always made this especially valuable", said Pagnozzi.
Leaders of EOC were also welcomed by Vesna Medenica, who thanked them for their support. During their stay, the Delegation also made a visit to the Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic.
